2016 Word and Scripture = Shepherd
Before there was Facebook app that would pick a verse or word for your year (that was really available on Facebook this year), I would seek a verse to claim for a new year. This verse is one I revisited throughout a year as challenges and delights came. The chosen verse would reminded me of how God was using my circumstances to reveal Himself in my life,
As 2016 started and many of you were sharing your “word” or scripture, I had no strong leading. I waited, prayed and sought God’s leading and waited some more. The weeks of January were clicking by, when I heard the word “shepherd” being used in an introduction. My word and vision to claim for 2016 was Shepherd.
My first realization about the word shepherd was that I need a Shepherd. The one true Shepherd who will feed, protect, lead and keep me from wandering. I need to be feed and watered from the Shepherd’s Words. I need the Shepherd to protect me from the enemy’s attacks as well as my own self-defeating thoughts. I need to follow the Shepherd as He leads me in every thought and action. I need to be kept from wandering away trying to do things on my own. I need a Shepherd.
As I accepted the word shepherd, I did so with the realization that I am also a shepherd. I am a shepherd to my family, friends, business associates and perhaps even you as you read this. My desire is to point those I shepherd to the only Shepherd who knows each of us completely, to encourage you to follow only Him and to trust His care of you. I am a shepherd.
I will be looking for my Shepherd’s leading as I shepherd in 2016.
What is your word, scripture, or phrase for this year? Why did this word? I would love to hear how God is leading you?
I am a humble receiver of the saving grace that Christ provided to me through his death and resurrection. My calling is as a wife to Bill, my husband of 34 years, a mother to 3 gifted daughters & 3 fine son-in-laws, and Grammie to my very sweet grandchildren. I love living in our community, spending time with people from all walks of life (I honestly can talk to anyone about anything) , studying and discussing God’s Word and always being with my family. Life and relationships are a gift that I treasure everyday.
