When God changes my plans

After a delightful few days in the sunshine with a dear college friend, I was ready to be home, see familiar sights and sleep in my own bed.  My friend dropped me off to the airport and headed to her home several hours away.  I walked into the airport ready for 2 easy, quick flights to home.  AND THEN my plans changed.

My original flight was delayed, but there was still time to make my connection to Pittsburgh.  I sat down, plugged my phone into a charger and waited.  AND THEN the announcement came,  that President Trump was flying out of Palm Springs and the airport stopped all incoming and outgoing flight.  A collective groan went through the airport and long lines formed as we all tried to reroute our trips.

Flight after flight I tried to get on would not get me home that evening. Finally, I ended up flying to Chicago to sleep on my daughter’s couch.  At first, I (like most of the crowd) allowed frustration and even some anger arise within me.  Then I remembered a lesson I learned 9 years ago when this same experience happened.  Even though, I make my plans and expect that they will work out – God ultimately controls the details of my journey.

All around me where people who were angry and frustrated; I could feel myself doing the same. Then I stopped that pattern of thought and realized that while I was disappointed that I would not be home that evening, I was safe and cared for.  Unexpected time with my daughter and son-in-law and my 2 year old granddaughter’s morning greeting of “Hi Mimi” were a sweet gift.

I was reminded again, that I do not control much of what happens to me.  My Lord simply asks me to trust Him as He arranges the steps of my journey home.

Recognizing and Remembering the journey

I am a humble receiver of the saving grace that Christ provided to me through his death and resurrection. My calling is as a wife to Bill, my husband of 34 years, a mother to 3 gifted daughters & 3 fine son-in-laws, and Grammie to my very sweet grandchildren. I love living in our community, spending time with people from all walks of life (I honestly can talk to anyone about anything) , studying and discussing God’s Word and always being with my family. Life and relationships are a gift that I treasure everyday.
