I love to give and receive gifts. Since becoming a Grammie, I love shopping the clearance racks to find deals on gifts for my grandchildren. My 3 year old granddaughter knows that I love to shower her (and her brother and cousins) with grammie gifts. A recent conversation between my granddaughter and her mama went like this…
My Daughter:Your 3 year old granddaughter already has you figured out… She was pretending to talk on her phone, then hung it up…
My Daughter: Who were you talking to?
My Granddaughter: Grammie
My Daughter: What’s Grammie doing?
My Granddaughter: Presents, doing presents.
My Daughter: Oh, who for?
My Granddaughter: Everybody. Grammie just loves doing presents.
This Facebook post truly touched my heart — this 3 year old little girl knows that she can count on me to be thinking of what she might need or want and that I delight in giving it to her (if possible). I have pondered her sweet words over and over again and love that my little Granddaughter “gets me.”
God does the same for me. He loves me. He knows me. He gives me good gifts based on what I need and desire. He “loves doing presents for me”, and His gifts do not come from the clearance rack. My granddaughter knows that I love her and I will give her sweet gifts – she doesn’t doubt it and she expects me to do so. I can count on my Heavenly Father to do the same for me, everyday He gives me good gifts of grace, love, hope and so much more – good gifts that He knows are just what I need and/or desire.
He is doing the same for you, giving you good gifts that only a Heavenly Father can because He loves you so very much. Go ahead and ask Him for good gifts and await your presents.
“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Mathew 7:9-11
