Merry Cooking ~ Her Ministry is Food

“A merry heart does good, like medicine”… Proverbs 17:22 There are some friends who make you smile all the time – when you think of them, talk to them, receive an email from them, read their facebook status or even think of how their name is spelled.  For me, Merry is that friend. I met Merry over the phone when we connected over scrapbooking and prayer.  Then she traveled to meet me while I was exhibiting at a trade show….

Reflections of my daughter's wedding

The last of our family has left and most of the wedding items  in our home has been cleaned, delivered or eaten.  It is over and to quote the line from the Father of the Bride, “It is funny how empty a house can get, isn’t it?” The weekend was beyond words that I can use to describe.  We all felt the Lord’s amazing presence all week, but especially on the day of Jason & Alycia’s wedding.  The weather was so prefect…

A Bittersweet Monday

This weekend found our homey home full of our daughters, my Mom and  friends for Alycia’s Bridal Shower.  What a sweet time we had enjoying each other’s company, holding baby Joey, eating good food, and just being together.   Our family and friends surrounded us in church yesterday as we worshiped our ever faithful God, Bill and I both acknowledged how blessed we are. Me, Audrianna, Alycia, Laryssa and my Mom (Nana) Yesterday and today, our good byes were mixed with tears…

My years as a MOPS Mentor comes full circle

For anyone who has been reading this blog for any time knows that mentoring MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) is a passion of mine.  I so remember being a young mother who lived several hours away from family, being very lonely on a quiet street with a small children.  I was so glad to be able to be home with my daughters, but I did miss the companionship of other women. 9 years ago, God called me to be one of the…

Serving God at our Homey Home

There is a special family at our church, Henry and Susan Hart and their children, who have a passion for the mission work in the Dominican Republic and Haiti.  For the last several years, their family members have served this ministry through working there, sharing the mission with others and praying.  Last year, they were able to take most of their family members on the trip (they have 11 in their family, counting Henry and Susan) and once again this year they are…

Lunch, Operation Christmas Child and College Students = a busy day filled with relationships

Somedays the Lord just fills my life to overflowing abundance ~ today was one of those days for me…  It started with a quiet morning, which was something I needed.  Time to move a little slower, to ponder once again God’s presence in my life and to enjoy the silence of a house to myself.  ~~~~~  My lunch time was shared with a special former MOPS Mom who I have always found to be very capable and yet so open to becoming more…

Women, Friendships and Thoughts

Since I am quite sure that most of my readers of women (sorry, Bill — I know that you do occasionally read my blog 🙂 ) – I know that every woman reading this has been affected by her relationships with other women.  So often, women’s relationships with each other are full of hurt and pain.  I often tell my daughters that unfortunately, women never really move beyond middle school relationships and it doesn’t matter if you are 12, middle…

Goodby to a very dear friend

Exactly a year ago, in the midst of all my failure and pain – I needed work.  Because I was so wounded, I did not know where to go or what to do.  One of my dear friends, Kelly, her parents needed around the clock care – so I started to spend time with them.  I still remember my first evening with them — I was so unsure of what to do and of myself.  But we all managed and over time we…

Parenting Thoughts & Labor Day Weekend Fun

Oh, how fast Labor Day seems to come.  Already in Western Pennsylvania, the weather has turned just a little cool in the morning and evenings.  I always remember reading The Berenstain Bears Go To School to my little girls and the first line reads … “When summertime ends, and the weather turns cool, most little bears are ready for school”.  Once again, on this Labor Day weekend, the leading statement from that book has been on my mind. We have had a…

Wise Insight from a 21 year old

Flickr Photo   My middle daughter has a friend, Bailee, who has been in her life since middle school (and a friendship that survives Middle School through college is rare).  When they were first starting to be friends, they decided that their Moms should be friends as well.  So they took their Moms out to ice cream to help us become friends (sweet, huh?) .  Well it worked, as her Mom and I have become great friends and have enjoyed being…
