And so we wait

The Saturday between Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday is where I live most of my life — waiting. God truly deems waiting as valuable, or at least He must, because He has me (and most of us) in waiting modes most of our lives. The disciples waited in fear behind locked doors.  I have been there many times – waiting in fear. The disciples had to be bewildered as they waited.  It didn’t make sense, because just a week…

More Grace…

I (with my Bible Study) just finished the Beth Moore Bible Study on James titled Mercy Triumphs. I learned so much from the 5 chapters of James that my head is still taking it all in and will be for awhile.  But my mind has been repeating one verse over and over again … “But He gives us more grace” – James 4:6   More Grace ~ More undeserved favor ~ More Love Just when I think I can’t understand and…

In 2015, may I be reminded that I am Blessed by the Grace of God.

I have been reading with great interest in people’s word/goal/resolutions for the New Year.  In the past, I have been right there with you, picking a scripture for the year and focusing and planning on that given theme (as a matter of fact – my posts on scripture for a new year have been some of my most read blog posts). To be honest with you, I have found myself struggling with a lack of clarity for what I want my year…

So Many Good Changes in just 1 Year

Our family in September 2009 Our family in September 2010. I am so thankful for all that God has done in our family — it is ALL His doing because Bill and I have made plenty of mistakes.  May I encourage each of you to hang on and stay true to your promises …. God is faithful and brings Himself glory through all of our pain and struggles.   Psalm 113 1 Praise the LORD. Praise, O servants of the LORD,…

Why is it?

Recently I had the priveledge of spending the day with a woman that I have not always been friends with.  We went to the same college together, yet ran in different circles.  We have know each other through different Christian organizations such as the Church, Christian School, etc…, but have never taken the time to really get to know each other.  But through our brokenesses, we recently and cautiously reached out to each other and connected. The day we spent…

When You Want to Run Away —

Last week, I gave a devotion at MOPS titled “When You Want to Run Away.”  When planning my devotion, I think and pray about the upcoming  topic for several weeks, and then several days before the actual meeting, I study and outline the talk.  This has been my routine since I started speaking years ago. But this devotional topic did not fall into place as usual.  I had lots of ideas,  did a quick study on Biblical people who ran away and sat…

Fear on Easter Morning

It  is early on Easter Morning and I have awaken early.  My immediate thought was that today is Easter and a review of the events of Easter Morning many years ago.  I thought of the: The women who probably awoke at dawnand quickly took care of the things at home so that they could attend to Jesus’ body.  They were doing what women do – taking care of the needs around them even while they grieved.  I imagine that they were afraid…

Women, Friendships and Thoughts

Since I am quite sure that most of my readers of women (sorry, Bill — I know that you do occasionally read my blog 🙂 ) – I know that every woman reading this has been affected by her relationships with other women.  So often, women’s relationships with each other are full of hurt and pain.  I often tell my daughters that unfortunately, women never really move beyond middle school relationships and it doesn’t matter if you are 12, middle…

Amazing Grace

Today has been one of those days when I have need to extend grace as well as be offered grace.  I have been thinking of the words to Amazing Grace by John Newton most of the day…  Amazing Grace Amazing grace how sweet the sound! That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found, Was blind, but now I see. ~ ‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved; How…

Starting Over Again

This week, I have had the opportunity to speak as a guest at another local MOPS group and also to lead devotions at our MOPS Steering Meeting.  As the guest speaker, I spoke on The Angry Mother Topic (always a favorite).  At both meetings, I encouraged the Moms with this verse… “The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.”  Proverbs 14:1 I used this verse to encourage the Moms to start over again this…
