They're Engaged!!

Last Wednesday, Saint Patrick’s Day, our oldest daughter, Alycia said YES to marrying Jason.  She started her day in Florida with her Grandparents and me, arrived in Pittsburgh in time to have lunch with her Daddy and by that evening, she had a fiance and a beautiful engagement ring on her finger. Photo taken by Jason’s Mom of Jason & Alycia that evening. Once again, Bill and I are so blessed by God bringing Jason into Alycia’s life.  I told him…

Words from one of my mentors

I have been rereading one of Corrie Ten Boon’s books titled In My Father’s House which she wrote in 1976 after her popular book The Hiding Place (she actually wrote a number of books on her life experiences).  The premise In My Father’s House is that the years she spent in her father’s home and in relationship with her Heavenly Father prepared her for the work  God had for her during and after the Holocaust.  She is one of my mentors as…

Prayers for the next generation…

On Friday evening, Bill and I hosted 7 couples for dinner and prayer.  This group consisted of  women who had been part of the Mentor training group that I had hosted for awhile and of course their husbands ~and one of our Pastors and his wife joined us too. It was a fun group…  Our invitation read … “Bill and I want to continue to encourage you as you raise your family.  God has been so gracious to our family by drawing our daughters to…

They are home!!

They are safely home from Kenya –  YEAH!! Last evening our home was full again as Bill and Alycia (along with our entire church team) arrived home safely.  Although, I am not a worrier, I am always glad when I see them coming down the escalator at the airport.  Today, it was pure joy spending time with Bill and Alycia, hearing their stories, seeing their photos and reconnecting.  The one thing I heard over and over again is that all the teams worked really hard,…

A New Year's Tradition

Every year on New Year’s Day, we eat pork & sauerkraut (a Pennsylvania Dutch Tradition).  I have been doing since before I can remember –  a tradition from my side of the family.  Traditions are a valuable part of our family life! Another tradition we have on New Year’s Day is after our meal, all who are eating with us shares what they would like prayer for this next year.  Then we pray for each other — around the table, we pray…

They are engaged…

This past weekend, our middle daughter Laryssa received a marriage proposal from Josiah — She said YES!!  Bill and I have prayed for this young man from the time that we knew Laryssa was on the way.  We praise God for His answer to our prayers.  Josiah is a strong believer who strives to follow after the Lord — both Bill and I are in full assurance that this is God’s plan and we are excited for their future.  …

3 Lessons learned from Hannah

This week, I was priveledged to teach the MOPS Bible Study on Hannah from 1 Samuel chapters 1 & 2:1-11 & 18-21.  It is such a blessings to open the scriptures and teach because I always learn myself when I do.  For this study and the summer study (which we did on Ruth), I write worksheets about the topic from scriptures.  We then work through the scripture and the worksheets together at the study.  I love it because there are women there from…

Isn't Technology Amazing

The last 2 days I have been able to have written conversations with Audrianna in Latvia via our Gmail Chat Accounts.  We both can immediately respond to each others words and thoughts — from Eastern Europe to Western Pennsylvania.  It is just amazing how connected we can still be even though she is thousands of miles apart.  We share the news of our days, our thoughts, feelings and prayers just as we do when we are together.  It does…
