Time Eases All Things ~ 35 years of marriage

On top of our bedroom dresser sit numerous frames with photos of our beloved family.  There is a large framed image from a Mary Engelbreit calendar that was framed by our middle daughter as a gift for a prior anniversary.  It is an image of an older couple swinging on a porch swing as they look at old photos.  The Sophocles’ quote “Time eases all things” is printed on the image. My husband and I celebrated 35 years of marriage on September…

Remembering my Dad

It was 2 years ago that my Mother told me that she had a pain in her back and I knew then that her cancer had returned and 6 months later she went to her eternal home .   My Dad and I worked hard to move him close to me to start a new chapter in his life and then the Lord took him home just 8 months later. In 14 months both of my parents were gone from…

I can't wait …

Last week I had the amazing honor to attend the funeral for a precious friend’s daughter. It was titled  A Homecoming Celebration of Life.  We came together to celebrate the life of a young woman who died too young from diabetes.  The Celebration Service was full of life with singing, praising, praying, greetings and a strong message of hope.  This service was very different than any other funeral service that I have  ever attended because my friend is African American. I…

Recent Recognizable Moments

There have been so many little moments recently that I have wanted to remember… Moments when I knew that God was in them that I must remember and record them.     God has revealed Himself to me …. As I watched a former Bible Study acquaintance lift her hands in praise as she worshiped God while singing the Sunday after New Years.  She is battling server brain cancer.  Unsteady of her feet, surrounded by her husband and son,…

God's call to remember our blessings

This blog post from 5 Minutes for Faith goes hand in hand with my Monday’s blog post.  I hope it encourages you as it it did me…            Remember the Blesssings Written by Gina   How quickly I forget the blessings of life.  When I think back to my childhood and through the years, what comes to mind?  The hard times.  The hurts and pain.  People who wronged me.  Why is that? Why is it so…

A Mother's Paycheck – Kim's Story

This sweet and very familiar story of a mom receiving dandelions is from one of the Moms who attends the MOPS Group I mentor.  Kim is an amazing Mom who loves being pregnant!  She has 3 children, ages 5, 3 (?) and 1 and is one of those amazingly creative Moms.  You can keep up with her family at http://ferricks.blogspot.com/ Dandelions by Kim As a stay at home mom, I don’t get a financial paycheck. But as I learned from my…

A Box of Mothering Memories

Several weeks ago, Laryssa was able to spend a week with us and it was fun to have her “home.”  While she was here, we had a  baby shower for her, did some shopping (for the baby of course) and even celebrated her birthday on her actual birthday! At the shower, Alycia, Laryssa and me – missing is Audrianna who was at college. While she was here, I remembered that I had packed away for each of the girls a…

When You Want to Run Away —

Last week, I gave a devotion at MOPS titled “When You Want to Run Away.”  When planning my devotion, I think and pray about the upcoming  topic for several weeks, and then several days before the actual meeting, I study and outline the talk.  This has been my routine since I started speaking years ago. But this devotional topic did not fall into place as usual.  I had lots of ideas,  did a quick study on Biblical people who ran away and sat…
