Legacy – what we will leave behind

This morning, I told my husband again that I missed my parents.  I miss their presence in my life, the ease of our conversations, the interest they had in me and the fact that they knew me first. Their legacy in my life goes far beyond money, it is rooted on relationships.  Their relationship with each other, with me, my family and most importantly their relationship with our Heavenly Father. I have been pondering the concept of legacy since our…

Memories of the Old Hymn Board ….

Growing up,  my family attended a little white county church called Monroe Chapel United Methodist Church in the middle of nowhere.  We were there every Sunday Morning and Evening, for wonderful potluck dinners, for VBS in the summer and Christmas programs in the winter.  It was here where I wore my Sunday best (complete with hat, gloves and purse which I obviously needed in this metropolis), that I played Red Rover at VBS,  and it was here that I first felt the love…

Legacy

Yesterday in church, a man I respect very much was praying (his family is also a good friend of ours).  He ended the prayer time with this statement… “As we leave this world someday, may we leave reminders of our faith…” Of course, this set my mind in action and it made me think of the book Reminders of Faith was privileged to publish called Passing on a Legacy of Love by my very good friend Marci.  When we published…

Walking through the fire…

Last evening, I was talking to my middle daughter Laryssa who is in Texas for the summer and she informed me that I haven’t written on my blog for awhile.   Wow, someone actually noticed – thanks Laryssa!  It is not that I haven’t tried to write … last night and several nights before I was writing some blog thoughts and both times, my broadband service went down.  I played a couple of games of free cell and solitaire hoping the service…

God's Call to Remember

The past three days on Focus on the Family, Ravi Zacharias has been speaking on “Why We Must Remember.”  I have listened as I drove places in the car and have found myself continually shaking my head in agreement.  This message that Focus on the Family declares… “The Bible says that God commanded the Israelites to set up a stone monument near the Jordan River so that future generations would remember how He miraculously helped the Jewish people enter the…

Releasing all of it to God

“It hurts when God has to pry things out of our hands.” Corrie Ten Boom.   Last month, when I was in Illinois working at Hearts at Home with Share HIS Story, I had the opportunity to visit a very dear young woman in my life.  I met Marci years ago, when I was working for Memories Expo and I hired her to be a Regional Director for Memories Community Scrapbook Association.  Marci and I immediately connected as Christian Believers and…

Your Story ~ Share it

Today at our MOPS meeting, we had our annual Tea & Treasures meeting where several MOPS Moms shared how God has been at work in their lives.  Even though this was the 6th year I have been part of Tea & Treasures – it was still a very special meeting for me.  To hear how God has purposely worked in another’s life is always amazing.  As I listened to a very dear Mom share her story with great vulnerability, I was touched…

My Mother's Wall Of Fame

Tomorrow evening, I am hosting our MOPS Moms here for an Ask the Mentor evening.  For the last several years, we have always at a least one Ask the Mentor Meeting at MOPS.  This year, due to other topics in our schedule – it has been moved from a meeting format to my home.  There will be a time where Moms can ask the mothering/wife/life questions that have been on their mind.  Then hopefully, I (along with a few others from the mentoring group…

Reading – the one perk to being sick

Since I have been sick – I have finished 2 books Someday by Karen Kingsbury and Home to Holly Springs by Jan Karon.  Finishing both in the course of a week have left me feeling thankful and lonely – as both of these books contain characters I count as dear friends.  Karen Kingsbury has a way of capturing everyday emotions in her books – her characters feel like they should be your neighbors and you want them to be.   My daughters and I…

Feeling Like a Failure? It is okay to share…

Yesterday at MOPS, I did devotions on “feeling like a failure”.  Our theme for the day was “Mirror, Mirror on the Wall” focusing on self-esteem.  If ever there has been a time in my life, when I totally felt unqualified to speak about self-esteem – it is now.  So I truly struggled with what I should say or even if I should change the topic. With the decision that my partner and I have made to close Reminders of Faith, I…
