For Moms of Graduating Seniors — hold tight and let go

Last week, I wrote an email to a cherished friend whose first born is about to graduation from high school.  I have found myself sharing these types of words often in the last couple of years (many of the MOPS Moms I mentored now have graduation seniors)…. You have no idea how many times I have thought of you over the past school year as you have posted photos of your senior.  There have been so many times that…

When Christmas Changes

For years and years our Christmas celebration were the same – the same people, same food, same events and traditions.  As our daughters got married, we made adjustments to continued with our treasured traditions. But our Christmas changed 4 years and so did I. Four years ago, my Mother was dying of cancer during the Christmas season.  Somehow we had Christmas that year, but there was an overcast of sorrow that surround our traditions.  I was anxious to put all…

Legacy – what we will leave behind

This morning, I told my husband again that I missed my parents.  I miss their presence in my life, the ease of our conversations, the interest they had in me and the fact that they knew me first. Their legacy in my life goes far beyond money, it is rooted on relationships.  Their relationship with each other, with me, my family and most importantly their relationship with our Heavenly Father. I have been pondering the concept of legacy since our…

Time Eases All Things ~ 35 years of marriage

On top of our bedroom dresser sit numerous frames with photos of our beloved family.  There is a large framed image from a Mary Engelbreit calendar that was framed by our middle daughter as a gift for a prior anniversary.  It is an image of an older couple swinging on a porch swing as they look at old photos.  The Sophocles’ quote “Time eases all things” is printed on the image. My husband and I celebrated 35 years of marriage on September…

Telling of God’s faithfulness

I have spent the last couple of weeks with my family – our daughters, son-in-laws and grandchildren. Some of the time was spent in our home along with a few days in the mountains of West Virginia. Throughout our time together, I found myself sitting back in utter amazement at the family God has blessed us with.  Each couple is uniquely different and approaches life from their gifting and personality.  Even though there is great love among us – it…

Those who have known me the longest

Earlier this month, a quiet day went by without the world knowing how this day changed my life.  I started to write a few words about the importance of this day on Facebook, but deleted the post when the few written words could not portray my heart’s feelings.  On March 12, 2014 my Dad, my only living parent entered his eternal home and the one who had known me the longest left this earth.  Just 14 months before, my Mom…

Memories of the Old Hymn Board ….

Growing up,  my family attended a little white county church called Monroe Chapel United Methodist Church in the middle of nowhere.  We were there every Sunday Morning and Evening, for wonderful potluck dinners, for VBS in the summer and Christmas programs in the winter.  It was here where I wore my Sunday best (complete with hat, gloves and purse which I obviously needed in this metropolis), that I played Red Rover at VBS,  and it was here that I first felt the love…

Remembering my Dad

It was 2 years ago that my Mother told me that she had a pain in her back and I knew then that her cancer had returned and 6 months later she went to her eternal home .   My Dad and I worked hard to move him close to me to start a new chapter in his life and then the Lord took him home just 8 months later. In 14 months both of my parents were gone from…

Treasuring Each Moment of My Daughter's Wedding

I love how each of our daughter’s weddings have reflected their personalities.  So even though, this was our 3rd wedding in as many years, Nic and Audrianna’s wedding reflected their artsy,  creative and fun tastes. Audrianna had a vision for their wedding and she did an amazing job of planning and executing a vintage theme for the day.  She asked Alison, a friend and mentor of hers (and the writer of Stuff and Nonsense Blog) to help coordinate the reception and as you…

So Blessed …

The last several months has been a very recognizable and blessed time in my life and for our family – definitely providing reminders of how faithful God is.  A trip to the Mexican Riviera, time with my daughter as we got ready for her wedding, sweet time with our  family and then a most memorable, beautiful wedding day for Nic & Audrianna.  How God continues to show His love to me… During the reception, I stood back and looked at the goodness…
