Lessons learned about Mothering from Eve – the very first Mother

In July, I led what I anticipate will be the last MOPS Bible Study on Biblical Mothers. With the start of a new MOPS year, it is time to move onto another topic (soon to be announced).  There are still several Biblical Mothers that I want to study.  Earlier I sent this list to the MOPS Moms to see what they wanted to study: Sarah – infertility, manipulation and letting go Hagar – hearing from the real God about her son…

Lessons learned about Mothering from Mary – Jesus' Mother

I have been promising to publish my Bible Study outline on Jesus’ Mother, Mary for some time and today is the day.  I actually write and talk on Mary quite often (see the post from December 14,2007 titled Treasured Moments of Mary, Jesus’ Mother).  The scriptures tell us twice how she treasured her mothering moments in her heart which of course corresponds with the message the Lord has given me to recognize and remember. One fact that I brought out…

Lessons learned from Jochebed (Moses' Mother)

How I love learning how the Mothers in the Bible struggled through issues just like we do.  Last week, I taught on Jochebed, Moses’ Mother for our MOPS Moms.  And again, I was intrigued by how alike moms are throughout time.  I was also touched by how sensitive the Moms were to Jochebed’s situtation of  being forced to give up her baby.  Several of the Moms were moved to tears over her life situation.  There is just something about becoming a Mom that stirs…

Lessons learned from Bathsheba's life (especially in her mothering)

Once again in May, I was privileged to lead our MOPS Bible Study on the life of another Bible Mother ~ Bathsheba.  What an interesting life she lead!  We typically only remember that she committed adultery with King David, yet she was the mother of 5 sons – including who died at birth and one who has been called the “wisest man in the world”. I continue to be so encouraged as we study these Biblical Moms because they are…

Lessons learned from Another Mother – Salome

In April, I had the privilege to again lead a MOPS Bible Study on Mothers in the Bible.  Since last summer we have been studying Mothers in the Bible including Hannah, Mary, Ruth & Naomi, Rebekah and now Salome .  The story about Salome is found in Matthew 20:20-27, 27:56 &  Mark 15: 40-41, 16:1-2. Salome is a mother just like us in that she only wants the best for her sons.  She is proud that her sons, James and John,…

3 Lessons learned from Hannah

This week, I was priveledged to teach the MOPS Bible Study on Hannah from 1 Samuel chapters 1 & 2:1-11 & 18-21.  It is such a blessings to open the scriptures and teach because I always learn myself when I do.  For this study and the summer study (which we did on Ruth), I write worksheets about the topic from scriptures.  We then work through the scripture and the worksheets together at the study.  I love it because there are women there from…
